Society President Gayle Grin announced this week that Felix Soh will be the new regional director of the vast Asia/Pacific region. Soh is taking over from Peter Ong, who resigned after many years in this role. Soh is the design editor as well as digital media editor of The Straits Times, Asia’s largest-circulation English language newspaper.
Soh’s paper, The Straits Times, is part of a large and influential media organization, Singapore Press Holdings which publishes 14 daily newspapers and 100 magazines in various languages including Chinese, Malay and Tamil. It is at the forefront of advances in both editorial and technical areas. Felix is also the consulting editor of an innovative bilingual free-sheeter as well as Digital Media Editor of SPH that is about to launch a breakthrough live streaming online TV station.
“As he straddles both print and new media, Felix is in an ideal position to help raise standards of design on behalf of SND,” Grin said.
Part of Soh’s mission will be to help raise SND’s profile in Asia. He has extensive contacts across Asia as a founding member and board member of the Asia News Network, a cooperative organization of 17 newspapers, with a circulation footprint of 50 million.
In 2004, Felix was on SND’s international panel of judges for the annual Best of Newspaper Design awards.
“Felix has the passion and the energy to do a great job for SND,” Grin said. “I’m so very happy he’s joining our efforts in Asia.”
