Subject: Presentation departmentAll,
Our new Presentation Department is several months old now, and it’s time we re-organized our management structure to clarify some roles here.
Steve Cavendish is the Presentation Editor. Steve is responsible for scheduling the news desk, managing the space and overseeing the design and production of the newspaper.
Stephan Benzkofer is the Senior News Editor. Stephan is responsible for the nightly production and news play of Page 1, working closely with the Page 1 designer and the senior editors to shape the page.
Jonathon Berlin is the Design and Graphics Editor. Jonathon is responsible for the visual identity of the paper. He also directs the Graphics staff and designs the Sunday A1.
Chuck Burke is the Features Design Editor. Chuck is responsible for scheduling the Features design staff and overseeing the design of the Live section, the pre-printed weekly sections and the Sunday features portfolio.
Jordan Dziura is the Senior Features Editor. Jordan is responsible for the production and presentation of the Features sections, working closely with the Features Design Editor and the senior editors to shape the portfolio.
Nancy Reese is the Training and Technology Editor. Nancy is responsible for staff training and workflow development. She also helps solve technology issues, including CCI and Mac integration. She’ll continue to serve as late graphics editor from time to time.
All of the positions above report to the AME/Presentation.
Ryan Smith is the Lead News Designer and Michelle Rowan is Lead Metro Designer. Bill McDonald is Senior News Editor for Planning and Production. These positions report to the Presentation Editor.
Also, Keith Claxton and Max Rust are the Assistant Graphics Editors. They are responsible for helping to shape the daily graphics report, including the execution, coordinating and reporting of information graphics and alternative story forms. They report to the Design and Graphics Editor.
These changes go into effect immediately.
Joe Knowles,
AME/Presentation

Whoa! What a lineup! Congrats to all the new position players!
The Chicago team is really quite impressive when you list them off like that. Congrats all ...
The quarterly report is still less than impressive, though.
What about Michael Miner?
Impressive lineup. Congrats to all and Happy Holidays.
Michael Miner is still very much with us. He’s taken on the op-ed pages (he did the Blago ‘Resign’ page) and also does the Sunday Chicagoland section in addition to about 12 other things. He remains a highly influential leader here. When he is inducted into the Design Hall of Fame, he’ll be wearing a Tribune cap (and a Jacksonville Journal-Courier T-shirt).
Looks like the right people in the right places to me. I’ve watched this team be assembled over the years and it still amazes me that they all occupy the same room. Can’t wait to see what they do next.
Congratulations to all of you. You are an inspiring group!
It’s great to see so many former NWI Times’ colleagues having an impact. Best to all of you.
