I really appreciate the videos of the judges. What a thrill it must be to see so many good papers from all over the world .
At this final stage of judging, they are looking at nearly flawless papers. It must be so difficult for the judges to continue to eliminate strong papers in order to choose the world’s best. Oh to be a fly on the wall and listen to these discussions!
I liked their explanation on how they are looking for seamless consistency throughout the whole paper with overall design, typography, color, grids, graphics ...and I especially loved their appreciation of how some newspapers have an element of surprise!—which is so delightful to a reader.
Pretty nice videos and good to hear Cristopher Winner say to return to simplification like Metropoli does on it’s covers. That’s the hardest part. The return of good ideas and humor, strong messages instead of undue effects or textures trying to imitate another medias instead to be ourselves.
Sometimes we push things so hard that at the end the good intentions are lost in a mess. Back to the basis. Good.
